They are no stud less ice and snow tire, but they're very comparable to other performance winter tires, splitting hairs by a foot or two. I've hit black ice on them a few times, and yes you can feel that you're on ice, but the traction feel is consistent so as it slips and regains traction there's no jerkiness. It's very predictable and many miles above even the best all seasons in that scenario.Awesome thank you for that. i was looking at the Wintracs as they are a bit cheaper than otheres but saw some concerns about ice. I live off a dirt road, a crime i know, which does get lots of Ice so may have to go to blizzeks for that.
In your case, especially if that dirt road is one you take quickly and has hills, the ice and snow blizzaks are the safest bet. I've been in light snow conditions on blizzaks at 32F on a gravel road I didn't know, and lost my forester xt over a blind hill going 15mph. I learned an expensive lesson about state farm, how subaru axles work, and how little grip exists on gravel with any ice. If it's just a short road then probably the performance winters would do, but I wouldn't expect them to push you through on the gravel road at anything more than 3" of snow (safely).
