Steering Gearbox Wheel Worm

Check your VIN for recall folks, just did my inspection and it turns out there’s a recall to replace the worm wheel in the steering gear box.

I wonder how long it takes to replace, Mitchell says 4.2 hours labor for the electronic steering gear, but I have no idea if it’s the same time.

The long part is waiting on parts. The procedure is less than an hour I think. There is a Youtube video that goes through the process with the service kit Honda has "released", not to much to it. The steering rack does not have to be removed.

I just had it done last week along with my initial service. I was in and out in a little less than two hours for oil change, tire rotation, and recall.

i got the notice too though i don't have the steering issue.

my dealership doesn't have any available for allocation (for me) but should soon.

Do they have to lower the subframe for this? I'm trying to get my rigid collars installed and was wondering if I should wait till after this recall's been dealt with.

The new repair process does not involve lowering the subframe.

Yes, that's the one. Much less invasive than the original procedure.

unfortunately, they don't actually replace the worm wheel. just a spring and add some grease.

Had mines done yesterday with a oil change under 3 hours.

I get it done this thursday. They said that it can take up to 5 hours, so they are putting me in a loaner.

Same, they took a little longer though. I asked the parts manager, he said that its a .6 hour job.
Although when I got my car back from the oil change, they drove 4 miles and left they vape in my cupholder....

The way it was explained to me by the mechanic, the worm wheel is only an issue because of the lack of greese (leading to a temperature change, followed by the swelling). With the added grease, the swelling, in theory, shouldn't happen.
