I was going to put the front tires on the back. And the back tires up front but swap sides.

So….
Front left to back left,
front right to back right,
Back left to front right
Back right to front left

is this right ? It looks like the pilot 4s are not directional but asymmetrical so the wall with outside written on it needs to face the outside ?

Yes, this is how I always do mine. If the tires are already on the wheels and mounted correctly, the side labeled "Outside" will always face outside no matter which wheel goes where. But if they're off the wheels, that's an extra thing you'll need to pay attention to when mounting them on the wheels.

Aside from a "direction" label, a quick way to know whether they're directional is to think about how the pattern would look if you swap between left and right. If it's the exact same as before swapping, you can rotate that way - otherwise they're directional.

(Demonstrating with lowercase letters, I hope this makes sense)
d p ---> d p: can swap left to right
d b ---> q p: directional, should only rotate front to back

If I put the back right wheel on the front left then it would say outside when it’s really on the inside so I’ll need to flip it around, right?

If the back right tire is already on the wheel and it says "Outside" currently, and you move the wheel to the front left, it will still say "Outside" on the outside. The tire direction does not change relative to the wheel unless you remove the tire from the wheel.

They are not directional, so put them anywhere you want. IMO, unless you are getting some specific side-related wear, I don't believe that it's worth the trouble to X rotate them, just do front to back. All you need do is jack up one side at a time. The only time I rotated side to side was when I was doing a lot of track stuff on a right-turn dominant course. Even then it wasn't necessary.

What intervals are you guys rotating yours? I'm at 4k right now but have had the car for a year.

I just had its first oil change, of which the dealership did NOT rotate the tires because they said it's not called for on the MM.

every oil change. i don't think i've ever had the MM NOT tell me to rotate the tires at every oil change.

I have roughly 8,000 on my PS4S and will rotate them this spring once I swap them back on for the DWS06+ I’m running over the winter. Seems like for my particular use that rotating them when doing the swap each spring makes sense.

that's why I thought it was odd. Someone on here said theirs didn't rotate either. I chalked it up to it being at 4k when I took it in but I was pressed for time that day and just hopped in my car and left after pick-up.

Non directional tires it's like you say, but I simplify it as "Straight back and across to front"

As for interval, I do it when it's up on the lift for oil changes. This year was 10,000km (6k miles) but it depends what kind of driving you do. Highway driving versus a NASCAR oval would have me rotating at very different intervals. It really depends on the route (left to right rotation if you're always turning the same direction) and your propensity to accelerate hard (rotate front to back to even out tread depth wear)

Could always just buy a 99c tread depth tool and measure yourself across the tire... Then rotate as you need to.

Mine are rotated at each wheel swap. Winters go on in November (rotated f to r, directional).

Summers back on in March, and rotated. The michelins are asymmetric but not directional.

Winters show no camber wear, surprisingly. Yet the Michelins do.
