What would happen if I turned my car off without lifting the electric brake first?

Would the brake go on automatically, or would I just roll downhill?

If you enable the brake hold
When you remove seatbelt and open door e-brakenis applied.any other time you need to manually apply the parking brake.. it's dumb. I wish we had old school hand brake.

How do I enable brake hold automatically? I have to flip the switch on every time I start the car.

Wow kind of a ridiculous design. Is there a way to enable the parking break to turn on whenever I shut the car off? Seems crazy that the car won’t even warn me when it’s in neutral with the e brake off.

Only enabling brake hold first.

Yeah the CVT version has an option to automatically apply the parking brake when you turn off the car, but they removed it from the manual for some reason.

Why second and not first?
no particular reason, but if you’re really worried, leave it in first or reverse gear for the highest rolling resistance.

when your car is facing up hill: reverse gear

when car is facing downhill: first gear

if the ITS parking brakes does fail you’d want to avoid rotating the engine backwards.

lastly turn your wheel so that it will point to the nearest curb should it ever move.

There is a risk of having someone ram your vehicle and ruining your transmission though. So if you’re absolutely certain the surface is flat, flip the park switch and leave it in neutral.

I was taught to park manual cars in first gear unless facing downhill, in which case it’s parked in reverse gear. When parked facing uphill, turn your wheels away from the curb, so that if it rolls backwards, the front passenger tire immediately catches on the curb.

If you ask me. I don't see what the problem is with the engine rotating backward. Nothing should break in the engine.
I do it the other way around and never had an issue in my 27yrs of driving experience.

Facing downhill - Reverse + Parking Brake
Facing uphill - 1st + Parking Brake
Leveled terrain - 1st + Parking Brake

Hmm I’m not an automotive mechanical engineer so I can’t speak to what the engine rotating backwards would do. In any case looks like you have the same standard procedure for uphill/downhill so we are all on the same page
