If only Mazda would step up and give the Miata some company. Because while I won't disagree, "nice" can sometimes mean "boring". I bought a Mazda3 for my son and that thing was truly a "nice" car- far exceeded my expectations for what I was buying it for- as a first car for a new driver. But an absolute snoozefest by any "enthusiast" metric... and more power wouldn't necessarily have solved that- because I ended up replacing it with a 9th gen Civic Si and that car is a blast to drive and only has a handful more horsepower.

I've been hearing rumors about the return of the RX-7 for years. Maybe with Toyota's illustrated willingness to jump back into the enthusiast market, Mazda will follow suit. As good as the Miata is, it's not like they forgot how to build a good sports car.

And maybe with the Japanese sports car renaissance, finally an updated STI while we're at it? Another S2K?

End of the day I still likely won't move off my ITS, but I love seeing the options.

I wish they had kept the mazdaspeed3 and offered a performance variant of the wagon.

Hell, they could AT THE LEAST offer the 6 speed with the 2.5T engine but nope - manual is only available for the anemic 1.8 base.

Also, Subaru's only bringing the STi back electrified.

Rumour had it they were teaming up with Toyota to create RX-7/Supra twins, but no concrete evidence of that actually happening.
