Why is there a need for a warranty extension if the vehicle protected itself by going into a limp mode state?

Sorry, but I don't see any qualifications in this case.

The only thing concerning about this whole ordeal is the lack of loaners in a luxury brand in where the ownership experience should be superior.
The rest was handled properly.

This is from my post about my track day this past Sunday (10/1). although I cleared that CEL about the fuel rail/system pressure being low and thought everything was fine, I’m now noticing that the pops and bangs aren’t present in sport+, even after being properly warmed up (like, 10 mins freeway driving). Got a service appointment tomorrow at 7 am, so hopefully will get everything resolved
I experienced something similar during my Alcantara wheel install. When disconnecting the battery and reconnecting the battery after install, I had multiple CEL lights that went away after like 3 min of driving. The following day i readjusted my wheel as i felt it was a bit off center to the right (another issue) and after the reconnecting the battery I would get the CEL lights (which went away) however I now had that emissions error now which was new. Hoping it would go away in a few minutes after driving it never did that night. The car noticeable had lower power. The following day the emissions light still would not go away...drove it some more and finally it went away on its own. The power came back etc, however as i continue to drive, that's when I thought maybe I was just going crazy as well as not hearing or noticing the pops as much. Maybe its all in my head because I got used to the pops and noises (Im always in Sport +) I haven't had any CEL issues since, but i def don't hear the pops much if at all.

Everything is resolved! Dealer confirmed the previous CEL code and did a diagnostic check to make sure everything was ok, then did a complete clear, no $$ charged (I’m guessing that when I “cleared” with my bluetooth OBDII dongle it still wasn’t a full clear as what the dealer device is able to do). Pops and bangs are back with a vengeance

@ender_ong Glad to hear!

@Hakmamba Oh no! hope you are able to bring it in to the dealership.

@OEMjoe Stevens Creek Acura Service Advisers are very professional and are very on top of things. They kept me well informed. The only real risk I see is that some of their technicians are a bit young but car guys. I caught them revving my vehicle in the back just to hear the pops but they didn't drive it. The lack of loaners and rental reimbursement is a shame.

@NoelPR yes you are correct in that the technical issues are solved. But the customer experience and journey has been very lackluster for a small premium brand. While extended warranty might not the be the answer, but there certainly is something more that can be done here.

Just got the car back, glad to report all pops and crackles are back. As stated below, they pulled the P068A code and it was cleared. Once again there are no engine mods to this car, this only came up during the removal of the battery following my Alcantara Steering wheel install. Not sure why this is the case to why the pops and cracks go away but its definitely something to be aware of for the DE5 and hope this helps those going forward

Update 6:
Sorry for the delay, just got out of the hospital

Acura gave me additional Acura Care as compensation on Nov 4th.

CEL came back on again this Sunday at 1418 miles, same symptom. On 4th restart it was gone.
Dealer scanned and it was same problem as before, they cleared codes and reflashed ECM.

They say its fine but I make NO boost in comfort mode and my car no longer crackle/pops on decel.

Update #7:

They flashed ECU and CEL is gone. But engine feels a bit strange.

Question to everyone here:

- Does your vehicle make positive PSI in comfort mode when at 4K RPM?

- How hard do you have to step on the gas to get positive PSI with the engine in Sport+?

Thanks!

This just happened to me. My car only has 2179 miles on it. 😭

My ITS suddenly threw errors for emissions, rev match, road departure mitigation, and adaptive cruise control. I wasn't doing anything except coasting down the street as I was driving around earlier today.

The car went into limp mode and it feels about as slow (maybe even slower) than the Toyota Corolla that my mother-in-law used to have haha. It's actually kind of scary how slow it is when I try to get the car up to highway speeds.

Next opening at the dealership unfortunately isn't until Wednesday next week, but I don't expect to need to do much driving between now and then. I'm really bummed this happened!

I'll share updates here as things develop...

Seems a bit extreme at this juncture... I hope it doesn't get to that, obviously.

Edit:
After doing more research, this seems to have been happening to FL5 Civic Type R owners too: https://www.civicxi.com/forum/threads/fl5-emission-and-rev-matching-system-problem-p0011.51214/

Seems a replacement VTC oil control valve assembly has fixed it for at least one person in that thread (part # 15830-RPY-G01 was noted). Granted, I don't know what code(s) my car is throwing yet. The valve assembly replacement seemed to address the issue for an owner whose car was throwing code P0011 which is a camshaft position error code 🤷‍♂️.

Dropped off the car yesterday morning and they kept it overnight. Latest update today is that they'll need to hang onto the car longer while they consult the techline. No leading theories on the issue yet.

@norsairius @crepr12

Update #8:
Dec 12th: Car threw another check engine light.
Dec 13th: Drop off at dealer, since this was the 3rd CEL since ownership, so Acura kept it and called corporate and they sent a Honda Engineer.
Dec 15th: Engineer arrives and runs multiple tests and decides - Engine ECU Harness replacement, Camshaft Sensor Replacement, Reflash again.
Dec 23rd: Get car back - seems okay drives better, actually feels good. BUT time will tell.
Today: Vehicle working.

NOTE: Also call Acura Corporate and get a case manager if this happens a 2nd time.

I was able to get extended warranty from Acura for my troubles, not the greatest but its something.

Your ITS if you are happy with it..so be it...
In Cali, you can't lemon law until the 4th time after 3 repairs for the same problem (this is the final one).
