help with this part

I found the pictured small part in a plastic bag in the glove compartment of my new Integra Type S. Anyone know what it is?

Ha I found this in my cup holder when I got my car. Not entirely sure what this is but I found where it goes. If u reach into the phone charge area, on the right side, closer to the shifter, you should feel a hole. This goes there. Make sure the open side is facing up, and the smooth side facing toward the front of the car. It slides in from the top then the top part you just push in. Due to where it’s positioned, you have to do it blind. Good luck.

I found this part on the charging pad shortly after I got my car. Took me a while to figure out where it goes, but yeah, there’s a hole in front of the shifter that it fits into. It hasn’t come loose in months, so hopefully it stays put.

could it be a cover for a slot where you can insert a key to be able to shift the car into neutral? Didn't that used to be a thing? Maybe the center console is the same as other cars in the Honda family that may have automatic transmissions?

For the CVT’s (shares same trim piece), to put the car in neutral if the vehicle is dead. Emergency neutral slot

Good thought, but no, I don't believe that is applicable in a MT car. Also, the opening there will not accommodate a key. Very strange, although it will probably turn out to be a simple answer.

No, what he's pointing to is that's the piece and it's there for the CVT but they don't change it for the manual. Just like the fact we don't have power memory seats, the cutout is still there on the door because they don't want to make 10 different parts.

Why not just check there instead of saying "I don't think it is"

Of course I did check there. There is no cutout for a key in the recess, but there is a small hole on one side that could be a receptacle for something small. But I believe you are correct, and the recess has no function in a MT car. I'm just curious about it and am looking for confirmation from someone who might have previously looked into it. I just got out a mirror and flashlight and checked that recess again. You are exactly correct; it is the cutout for the shifter lock release, and the key fits through the slot. Since it is a manual transmission, the key doesn't touch anything, so I guess it has no function. Sorry for the misinformation on my part.

Everyone saying it's the shift lock release cover is correct. They are supposed to be installed during PDI but seems like this step is often overlooked.

That is exactly what it is. It is called a shift lock override cover.
