Just installed the Accord mirror with the harness. Overall wasn't bad, but I've done this for multiple cars so I'm familiar. I would rate it 4.5/10 for difficulty. Was a bit harder for me since I have the FitcamX installed and the cables got in the way. Definitely worth. One small difference is that the Accord mirror sits higher than the OE mirror, so the bottom of the base is a lot more visible now.

I also have fitcamx in my ITS and am interested in replacing the mirror with homelink. Do you mind sharing the part number for the mirror and harness? And where did you purchase yours from?

From a safety perspective I'm not understanding how a portable garage door opener in the car is a risk. My car lives in the garage. When it's out in public someone would have to break a window or steal the entire car to get access to the device. Then in addition to that they'd have to know the address where I live. If someone can run license plates, which are public info, and really wants to get into our house then so be it. A Homelink at that point is no different than the portable device. The chances of that are on par with a plane crash given how dumb criminals are 99% of the time.
My car lives in the garage also, but there are times when it has to be outside for whatever reason. Maybe you are cleaning the garage (yes, some of us do that), maybe you are installing cabinets, maybe you are charging the battery on your wife's car that is normally outside. There are lots of scenarios where you might need to leave the car outside.

We recently had a spate of thieves going house to house in nice neighborhoods ($1.5 million +) and checking for open car doors in the middle of the night. They stole lots of things from lots of cars, including firearms (stupid to leave guns in a car but that's another subject). It's often not a case of them having to break a window--people leave their car doors unlocked all the time, or their kids do. Even if you normally keep it locked, there are times when you just...forget. Or maybe you aren't old enough to ever forget anything, but it will eventually happen. As for break-ins in remote places, ever stop at the mailbox and toss your mail in the backseat? Bingo--there's your address. OH, and look--there's the remote garage door opener. Guess where that guy's going tonight while you are sleeping?

I think if you have this notion that it is far fetched for someone to gain access to your garage with a clip on door opener, you aren't really paying attention to what is happening in our society. Criminals are usually dumb, but they are often street smart and often know the tricks of their trade. Ignore it at your own risk.

BTW, our house was one of the ones hit by the car thieves earlier this year. See the photo below from our surveillance camera. Fortunately I always make sure the car parked outside is locked so they didn't steal anything. Keep in mind this is a very nice neighborhood as I mentioned. If my wife or I had left the car door unlocked, the remote garage opener was clipped right on the visor. I have since removed the opener from that car and we just use the keycode outside the garage now.

The nice thing about the Homelink is, 1) it is built in--can't steal it, and 2) when the car is off it is not functional. A garage door remote is portable and functional regardless whether it is with the car or not. Feel free to ignore these warnings. It's your choice and your stuff/lives.

That’s pretty cool. I wonder if it’ll be free for everyone unless you need the additional hardware they mentioned. That part is not clear.

The timeline for availability is also a bit unclear.
I just stuck a Meross smart module on my existing garage door opener. When I get close to home a button pops up on carplay to open the garage door. That or I can use Siri to do it. $45, 15 minute install, and I didn’t have to pop a bunch of interior trim.

That linked article says it is functional as of today but who knows if it's accurate. I'll give it a look later on as I have all the necessary hardware it says should work.

Actually, I was able to go into the AcuraLink app and connect it to my MyQ account. I haven’t taken the car out yet to test it, but it looks like it’ll work well…especially with the Smart Notifications. The downside is that it’s only a 30-day free trial. Then I think it’s $179 for 5 years.

On the other hand, my LiveKey app has been working very well for the last couple of weeks. It’s been working great once I got logged back in to LiveKey, I recreated the shortcuts on iOS.

I’ll consider doing the Merros opener if I encounter any additional issues into next month.

I also connected Acuralink to MyQ. I operated my garage door from my car’s screen. Don’t know if it’s worth the price yet.

Where is it located on the app to set it up?

For what it's worth, the MyQ app itself is free and can be operated from your phone. I can see the appeal of using it natively from the car's UI but for that cost I will, personally, pass.

It’s under “Manage Features” on the bottom right of the landing page.
When I go to Manage Features, all I see is Vehicle Data Sharing On/Off. Nothing else on that page. Could this be different for Type S?

Did you previously register your car to the app? Mine came up right away, and it’s been registered since last summer.
